Everything that you ever wanted to know about the Crossbar Challenge.

  • The Crossbar Challenge has featured on “Soccer AM” a British television show on Sky Sports.
  • It has been a feature of the show since 2006.
  • The aim of the challenge is to hit the crossbar of the goal from the halfway line.
  • Usually the entire squad, sometimes including coaching staff, take on the challenge.
  • The challenge is very difficult.
  • The English FA suggest that a pitch should be 110 x 70 yards (100 x 60 metres), this means the halfway line is around 50 metres from the crossbar!
  • The crossbar is 8ft off the ground and 24 ft long. (2.5 x 7.6 metres)
  • Manchester United have not featured on the challenge and probably never will, they do not tend to take part in such shows.
  • The current champions are Northampton Town and Hereford United who both hit the crossbar 3 times.
  • The most searched for and popular team on the Crossbar Challenge Blog is Chelsea.
  • The background music from the show is currently “Smiling” by The Beta Band, previously it has been “Seventeen Years” by Ratatat.
